Marilyn Jane White

March 29, 1931 — October 27, 2021

Marilyn White, 90, passed away October 27, 2021 with family by her side. Marilyn is now “safely home” and able to “stroll over heaven” with her husband, Reggie. She was born in Syracuse, NY to James and Edna (Gildemeyer) Hughes. Shortly after graduation from Vocational High School, she met her soon to be husband while working at Whelan’s Drug Store. After marrying Reg, she stayed home for the next 27 years to raise their five children and support her husband in his many businesses. The White family moved from Syracuse to Cleveland, NY before settling in North Syracuse in 1970. Widowed in 1975, Marilyn went to work in order to support her family. She enjoyed a 22 year career as a Teaching Assistant in the North Syracuse Central School District. Even in retirement, Marilyn continued to work providing child care for her grandchildren.

Marilyn felt she was blessed to be able to live in her own home on her own up until her passing. Marilyn’s Christian faith guided her through her life’s journey. Marilyn was a Sunday School Teacher at Calvary Baptist Church for many years. She also volunteered at New Hope Family Services, the Syracuse Rescue Mission and Literacy Volunteers. Marilyn truly was a good and faithful servant.

Besides her husband, Reginald in 1975, Marilyn was predeceased by her daughter, Kathleen Sellars, her parents and siblings, Carol Cogan, Richard Hughes, James Hughes, Sharon Chappell and baby, Mary Jane Hughes.

Marilyn is survived by her sons and their spouses: B. Daniel (Elly), Lawrence (Kathy), Reginald (Sandy) and daughter, Christine (Randy) Parks; grandchildren: Daniel, Matthew, Jennifer, Maria, Marilyn, Don, Dawn, Tim, Jeremiah, Benjamin, Anna, Abigail, Nathanael, Joshua, Elizabeth, Isaiah, Samuel, Micah, Andrew, Shannon, Mitchell; 16 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marilyn’s memory may be made to the Rescue Mission, 155 Gifford St., Syracuse, NY 13202
