Adelbert C. Baxter

North Syracuse

Adelbert “Del” C. Baxter, 87, lifelong resident of North Syracuse, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2024. Born to the late Charles and Jennie (Tuller) Baxter, Del was a 1954 graduate of North Syracuse High School. In his youth, Del worked on the Tuller family farm and in the trucking business.

Del worked in the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department, retiring in 1985 as a Sergeant after more than 25 years of service. Following that, he worked part-time with the North Syracuse Police and drove school bus for the North Syracuse Central School District. Del was a member of the Liverpool Elks Lodge #2348, a member of the Fraternal Order of the Police, and a proud member of the NRA. He was a former member of several area car clubs and enjoyed drag racing, especially at ESTA Safety Park. Besides working on cars, Del loved showing cars. He also enjoyed golf, camping, bowling, and donating to the casino. For many years, Del and his wife, Cindy, would snow-bird in Florida and South Carolina to escape the CNY winters. He had daily gatherings with the Panera crew and was a member of the Cicero United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, Del was predeceased by his half-sister, Rebecca Turner. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, the former Cynthia “Cindy” (Watson); his children, Stephen (Lisa) of Hastings and Jennifer (Erica) of Gilbert, AZ; several stepchildren; a sister, Sharon (James) Swan of Cicero; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; a brother-in-law, Ed (Sally) Watson of Wolcott; and a sister-in-law, Lori (Bud Moore) LaShombe of Syracuse.

The family expresses special thanks to Dr. William Berkery of Crouse Cardiology and Family Care in Cicero including Jennifer Ambrose, PA.

Friends may call on Thursday, November 21, from 3:00 – 7:00 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Funeral Services will begin Friday, 11:00 am, at the funeral home followed by burial will be in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay.
