John Almeida

John J. ?Big John? Almeida, 78, of Mattydale, passed away Tuesday at home with his family by his side. John was born in 1931 in Boston, MA. He graduated from Mansfield High School in Mansfield, MA. After graduation he enlisted in the USAF and served during the Korean War.
John retired from AT&T in 1991 after 35 years as a communications technician. He was active with their union Local #1152 Communications Workers of America and held an officer position.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Shirley Cone Almeida; two daughters: Diane Burton of Mattydale, and Michele Fehrman of Chittenango; his three grandchildren: David Sasha Burton, stationed at Cherry Point, NC, Nikki Fehrman of Chittenango, and Heather Fehrman of Mattydale; a cousin: Richard Dorothy Shea of Fort Myers, FL; several nieces and nephews as well as his niece/god-daughter, Colleen Ken Kugler of Williamstown, NY. The family extends a special thank you to family and friends, Hospice Aides, Kathy and Jason, Dr. Suzanne LaManna for their love and support over the past few weeks.
Friends may call on Friday from 4-7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Funeral service will begin at 11:30 am Saturday at the funeral home followed by burial in Pulaski Cemetery, Route 11, Pulaski. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either Hospice of CNY, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool NY 13088 or to NAVAC, PO Box 215, North Syracuse NY 13212.
