Beverly Austin

July 26, 1935 — December 14, 2015

Beverly “Bev” Ann (Domachowski) Austin, 80, a resident of North Syracuse, died peacefully at home after a short battle with cancer on Monday. She was the second daughter of Lena and Tony Domachowski, born on July 26, 1935, in North Syracuse. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, LTC Ralph A. Austin, Jr. and her sister Roberta (Cookie) Domachowski.

Beverly was the Salutatorian of her High School Class. She met her future husband while working at Carrier Corporation. They were married on August 9, 1958 in Syracuse, NY and together had five children. Her husband’s military career took them all over the United States and overseas. Beverly was especially fond of the three years she and her family lived in Taipei, Taiwan.

Beverly found great joy in her passion for gardening. Her beautiful garden at 600 Bailey Road often prompted passersby to stop and talk with her. She was always willing to share her blossoms with these visitors, often cutting a small bouquet for them to take home to enjoy. She had a kind heart and a generous spirit.

Beverly was also passionate about baking and cooking for family and friends. For Christmas she would spend weeks baking myriad types of cookies and would send every holiday visitor home with a plateful of delicious confections to share.

Beverly is survived by her six children: Anthony (Sue) of Dallas, Texas; Lorraine of Skaneateles, NY; Patrick (Caris) of Orange, CA; Rebecca (Bob) Tinkham of Berkley Heights, NJ; Paul (Jennifer) of Beacon, NY; and Marge Anderson of Campbell, NY; a daughter-in-law, Peg Austin of Liverpool, NY; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sister, Fran Gocek, of Syracuse and her brother, James (Sandy) Domachowski, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday from 4 - 7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Prayers will begin on Saturday, 9:15 am at the funeral home followed by a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret's Church in Mattydale. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, Dewitt.
