Bibiane Bouthillette, 93, formerly of Mattydale, died Wednesday, September 14, 2016 in Jupiter, Florida. Bibiane was born in St. Isidore, Ontario, Canada, and resided in Cornwall for many years. She was the daughter of the late Clement and Germaine (Besner) Gravel. Bibiane moved to the Mattydale area in 1954 with her husband, Lucien. The two wintered in Florida for many years before Lucien's passing and Bibiane had recently relocated to Jupiter.
She retired in 1975 after 15 years as an assembler for General Electric Heavy Military Division in Syracuse. Bibiane was a member of the New York State Old Tyme Fiddlers Association and the Oswego Valley Fiddlers Chapter for nearly a quarter of a century. She served as Vice President of the Oswego Valley Fiddlers. She was also a member of the Central New York Blue Grass Association. Fiddling was her main instrument of choice, but she also played other instruments, such as the piano, dulcimer and guitar. BiBi was instrumental in bringing old time fiddle tunes to the US from her place of birth, Canada. Bibiane was also a seamstress and made many of her clothes for performances of music and square dance. One such outfit can be seen at the Fiddlers' Hall of Fame and Museum in Osceola, New York. She shared her talents with so many and taught people how to enjoy life through her music, song and dance.
In addition to her parents, Bibiane was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Lucien Bouthillette, in 2001, her siblings: Noella St. Pierre, Giselle Ayotte, Romain Gravel, and Simon Gravel, and by her grandson, Blake Cody Bartlett.
She is survived by their two daughters: Claudine (Cody) Bartlett of Fairport, NY, and Nicole Bouthillette of Juno Beach, FL; and a great granddaughter, Jordyn Bartlett.
