William J. "Bill" Brooks

January 16, 1954 — May 4, 2014

William "Bill" J. Brooks, 60, of Centerville Court Apartments in North Syracuse, died Sunday at St. Joseph's Hospital. Bill grew up in the Mattydale and Lakeport areas and resided on Malden Road for 17 years before moving to North Syracuse in 2012. He a 1972 graduate of Chittenango High School and was the son of the late Henry and Helen (Campbell) Brooks.

Bill worked at Krueger Funeral Home for 14 years before retiring in 2010. His position there was instrumental and varied since he was a jack-of-all trades. Bill was always quick to help, eager to please, and his smile was contagious. He was a former member of both Hinsdale and Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Departments. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman that enjoyed the trips made with his son and friends especially in the Skaneateles area.

In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brother, Bob Brooks, Sr. in 2010.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, the former Vickie (Graboski); two children: John (Nicky) Brooks of Mattydale and Caroline (Matt) Sherlock of Syracuse; two sisters: Sandy (Dominick) Cirrillo of Lawrenceville, GA and Deborah (Sean) Kennedy of Pooler, GA; his four grandchildren: Adam, Sarah, Josh, and Steven; a great grandson, Amare; and several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the nursing staff at St. Joseph's ICU for their care of Bill during his stay.

Friends may call on Friday from 4 - 7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale, with a 7 pm service following.
