David K. Plato, 82, of Brewerton, passed away Friday, December 22, 2023. Born in Chaumont, NY, David was the son of the late Francis and Marguerite (Shaw) Plato. He graduated from Lyme High School in 1959 and attended SUNY Clarkson and SUNY Delhi.  Following school, David served in the US Air Force in Vietnam from 1962-1966.

He was employed by J.P. Burns as an accountant, McMillan Book Bindery as a manager, and for the Eraser Company in Dewitt. He later worked as a monitor for the Central Square School District. David was a 56-year member of the Brewerton Volunteer Fire Dept. where he served as Captain for over 50 years and as the President and Treasurer for many years. He was the Past President of the Onondaga and Oswego County Fire Police Association and the Past President and Treasurer of the Volunteer Fire Police Association for the State of New York. David won the Red Jacket award from the Onondaga County Firefighters Association in 2021 as well as a plethora of other awards including Firefighter of the Year, Top Responder award and the Clinton Award from the Fort Brewerton Masonic Lodge. David was Past Commander of the Cicero American Legion Post #787 and the Past Commander of the Onondaga County American Legion. In his downtime, David enjoyed bowling for many years and was especially fond of his friends at Green Acres Lanes; he also played card games with his friends and loved to go camping.

David is survived by his wife of 33 years, the former Rosalie (Scott); their children: Michael Plato of California, Donald (Michael) Coleman of Boston, MA, Scott (Eloise) Coleman of Las Vegas, NV, William (Janet) Bell of Cicero, Terri (Rick) Faes of Liverpool, and Melanie Bell-Smith; two sisters, Sharon (Brent) Smith or West Virginia and Karen (Ken) Maughan of Brewerton; and by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition, David is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Edward (Peg) Scott, Jim (Marilyn) Scott, Maureen (Robert) Turnbull, and Robert (Linda) Scott, all of Brewerton.

Friends may call Thursday, January 4, from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Brewerton Volunteer Fire Dept. Funeral Services will be on Friday, 10:00 am, at Brewerton Volunteer Fire Dept. with burial in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay, following.
