Anna M. Doneger (Sponna)

January 10, 1924 — October 31, 2014

Anna M. Doneger, 90, of Mattydale, died Friday at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was a native of Czechoslovakia and the daughter of the late Oswald and Gisella Sponna.

She lived in Germany during her childhood and young adult years, enduring the many hardships of WWII. She met her husband Philip at the end of WWII. Upon their marriage, they sailed to the United States, entering at Ellis Island in 1949. They made their home in North Utica, New York. In 2010, Anna moved to Mattydale where she resided with her daughter, Karen Ann.

Anna retired in 1994 after 28 years as the manager of E. Cramer & Sons in New Hartford.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Philip, a son, Michael Ernst, her parents, and her brother, Ernst.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Ann (Stephen) Roberts of Mattydale; three grandchildren: MSGT. Eric Lent of Mattydale, Allyson R. Lent of Somerville, MA and Elizabeth M. Roberts of Mattydale; as well as her two best friends, Rosalie Karolac of Clark Mills and Maxine Groover of Syracuse.

Contributions in Anna's memory may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 731 James St., Syracuse, NY 13203.

Friends may call on Saturday from 1 - 2 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale, with a service following at 2 pm. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
