Douglas S. McLaughlin, 81, of Liverpool passed away Friday at Upstate University Hospital. Doug was born in Syracuse and raised in Delphi Falls. He was the son of the late Henry and Dorothy McLaughlin with whom he moved to Orlando where he completed his senior year and graduated from Maynard Evans High School and then attended the University of Florida.
He relocated to the Syracuse area and worked at General Electric and Cambridge Filter before becoming a self-employed draftsman, creating patent drawings until his retirement.
He served his country in the Army reserves for 39 years attaining the rank of Sgt. 1st Class from 1964 to 2003 with the 403rd Civil Affairs Battalion. In the course of his duty, he was activated and served in operations Desert Sheild, Desert Storm and Enduring Freedom.
Doug was a member of the VFW Post #3146 and the American Legion Post #1832 both in Mattydale along with the Syracuse Pistol Club. He was a published author of the book “My 39 ½ years in the US Army Reserves”.
Doug is survived by Ethel (Chilton) McLaughlin of Dewitt, his Brothers Brian (Ceil) McLaughlin of Liverpool, Robert (Virginia) McLaughlin of Ithaca, several nieces and nephews William, Phillip, Bart, Brian, Brad, Kenneth, Donald, Gene and Joelle.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Funeral Services will follow at 7 pm. A prayer service will begin on Wednesday at 10 am at the funeral home, followed by a burial with Military Honors in White Chapel Memory Gardens, Dewitt.
