Gertrude "Gert" M. Galvin, 94, of Bessie B. Riordan Apartments in Mattydale, died Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Crouse Hospital. Gert was born and raise in Nashua, New Hampshire before residing in Mattydale for over 40 years. She moved to the Brewerton area for 10 years and then migrated back to Mattydale in 2000. She was the daughter of the late Lucien and Georgianna (Hudon) Faber.
Gert worked in several capacities in the Syracuse area including General Electric, McMillan, Book Binding, Switz's, and K-Mart in Mattydale. She enjoyed playing Bingo, board games and cards with her friends and family. Gert frequented the library and was an avid reader. She bowled on many leagues at Bowling Green and Strike 'N Spare Lanes. Gert was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church.
She was predeceased by her infant son, Robert, in 1955, and by her husband of 43 years, Thomas E. Galvin, in 1985.
Gert is survived by six children: Cheryl E. Kelly of Mattydale, Michael T. (ImSuk) Galvin of Tacoma, WA, Barbara J. (Mark) Burns of Lacona, Richard E. Galvin of Phoenix, Gail F. (Theodore) Kilian of East Syracuse, and Thomas J. (Karen) Galvin of Tacoma, WA; a brother: Armand Faber of Motley, MN; 15 grandchildren ; 18 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
