Richard "Dick" J. Gay, 65, of Cicero, passed away unexpectedly at University Hospital on Tuesday. Dick was born and raised in Mattydale and resided in Cicero for the past 20 years. He was the son of the late Clifton W. and Rose Messano Gay.
Dick was a 1963 graduate of North Syracuse High School and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served during the Vietnam War. Dick retired in 2005 after 26 years working for the U.S. Postal Service. Prior to that, he worked for Sports-A-Rama Skating Rink in Mattydale. Dick was a member of the Hinsdale Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the D.A.V. in Syracuse. He was a car enthusiast and a member of the POCI Pontiac Car Club where he served as its historian.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years, the former Elizabeth "Betty" Torosian; doting and loving father to their three children: Loretta Ken Bowne, Clifton Chris Reistrom Gay, all of Cicero, and Rebecca "Becky" Peter Hall of Fayetteville; two sisters: Sandra Exner and Kathleen Walsh, both of Mattydale; and he was the adored grandfather to: Jacquelynne, Kenny, Isaac, Julianna, and Katey.
Friends may call Thursday from 3-5 and 7-9 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. A Prayer service will begin at the funeral home at 9:15 am Friday followed by a 10:00 am funeral at Malden Road United Church of Christ, 108 Malden Rd., Mattydale.
