Helen Hawn, age 93, of Syracuse, NY, passed away on December 4th in the loving care of her family. She was a long-time resident of Mattydale, NY, and a parishioner at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church.
Helen lovingly devoted herself to her family. She was preceded in death by her childhood sweetheart and husband of 60 years, Earl Hawn Sr, and by her beloved daughter, Deborah Hawn Shriver.
Helen generously volunteered for various causes in her community over the years, especially by working and supporting Bingo at her parish of St. Margaret’s, and by volunteering at the ever-popular concession stand for the Mattydale/Hinsdale Little League.
She was a dedicated partner to her husband Earl Sr. who was the “love of her life” since childhood. The couple were well known on Oneida Lake for their ability to catch walleye without fail. They had their camp for many years on the North Shore near Jewell, NY, where Helen enjoyed leisure and time away from home. She loved to play cards with her family and friends and gave anybody who played against her a run for their money. Helen also was a faithful NY Yankees fan.
Helen truly enjoyed her nieces and nephews, whom she developed very close and meaningful relationships that lasted throughout her life.
Helen is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Mary Hawn, Jr. of Marquette, Michigan; a son-in-law, Robert Shriver of Richmond, VA; her siblings, Chuck Perolla of Syracuse and Jenette Reichard of Hastings, NY. She was the proud grandmother to Daniel (Austin) Shriver of Richmond, VA, Matthew (Katherine) Hawn of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Kyle (Venessa) Hawn of Marquette, MI, and Jessica Nelson-Hawn of St. Paul, MN. She was also great-grandmother to Christopher, Lucy and Charlie Shriver, Cole and Elliana Hawn, and Amelia and Cora Nelson.
Donations in Helen’s memory may be made to St. Margaret Church in Mattydale, NY.
