Helen Sayko-Schultheiss, 91, of Canandaigua, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2025. Born and raised in Russo, North Dakota, to the late Kosma and Annie (Zahursky) Panasuck, Helen was a 1952 graduate of Minot High School in Minot, ND. She resided in Mattydale for 40 years, Traverse City, Michigan for over 20 years, and finally settled in Canandaigua for the past few years. An avid traveler, Helen also maintained a winter home in Auburndale, Florida for the past 27 years.
She worked in the Real Estate business for many different brokers in the Syracuse area for many years before retiring in 2000. Helen was a member of the Long Lake Bocce Club and active in the Traverse City Seniors. She enjoyed playing euchre, knitting, gardening in her flower beds and traveling the world especially her trips to China and the Ukraine. Helen was a believer of the Episcopalian faith and a member of St. Thomas and St. Matthew’s Church for over 40 years before relocating to Michigan. She then attended Grace Episcopalian Church for over 20 years and served in the Altar Guild for all three churches.
She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Paul Sayko Jr., five siblings: Elmer, Alvin, Minnie, Alice and Liza, and by her step-son, Doug Schultheiss.
Helen is survived by her son, Victor Paul (Carolyn) Sayko of Skaneateles; her husband, Robert R. Schultheiss of Canandaigua; two sisters, Rose Quarne of Eagle River, AK and Sherry Paulding of Sebastian, FL; three step-children: Jerry (Linda) Schultheiss, Ken Schultheiss, and Judy (Randy) Stone; grandmother to Danielle, Ryan, and Victoria as well as her step-grandchildren: Craig, Brandon, Patrick, and David; a great grandson, Miles, and 7 step-great grandchildren.
Contributions in Helen’s memory may be made to St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 904 Vine St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
Friends may call on Tuesday, May 27th, from 4:00 -7:00 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Funeral Services will begin on Wednesday, May 28th, 11:00 am, at the funeral home with burial in North Syracuse Cemetery following.
