James P. Best

James P. Best, 64, of Liverpool, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2026. Jimmy grew up in Stewartsville, New Jersey where he graduated from Phillipsburg High School. He relocated to Liverpool in 1993 and has resided there since.

Jimmy attended Liberty Resources programs for over 30 years and he participated in many community-based activities. He was very fond of all animals, especially his family pets and was a parishioner of St. Margaret’s Church.

Jimmy was predeceased by his birth parents, James and Florence Best, and by his foster parents, Thomas and Kathleen Scarlett. Surviving are Rachele Scarlett with whom he resided and Cheryl Maloney of Mattydale. Also his sisters and brothers, Dorothy Best Smith of FL, Alice Meling of IL, Kathy Bradley of NJ, and Tom Best of FL; several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and great nephews.

Contributions in Jimmy’s memory may be made to Friends Forever Animal Rescue, 174 Gristwood Rd., Pennellville, NY 13132.

Friends may call on Thursday, March 5th, from 4:00 -7:00 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale, with a Funeral Service following at 7:00 pm. Burial will be in Cedar Ridge Cemetery, Blairstown, NJ.
