James C. Hartman

James "Jim" Cleacy Hartman, 88, of Cicero, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. Born in Houston, Missouri, Jim was the son of the late Charles and Lura Hartman. He was a graduate of Houston High School, class of 1956. Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country spending several years stationed in Iceland and at the Hancock Air Force Base in Syracuse.

Following his service, Jim met his wife of 37 years, Elizabeth, known as Betty, and they settled in Syracuse to raise their family. He embarked on a long career with United Parcel Service in Syracuse. He dedicated 32 years as a tractor-trailer operator before retiring in 1998. Jim was a member of the American Legion of New York. A man of many passions, Jim was an avid NASCAR fan and found great joy in the world of country music. He loved traveling and had a particular fondness for tinkering on his Ford truck. Sports were another of his interests, and he was especially enthusiastic about cheering for the New York Giants. Being from the south, he was a soft-spoken gentleman and enjoyed long conversations and time spent with family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife, Betty, in 1999. He is survived by four children: Linda Tysco of Cicero, Brenda Eppolito of Jamesville, Betsy Hartman of Cicero, and Robert (Jackie) Buehner of Syracuse; six grandchildren: Justin, Travis, Renee, Dillon, Danielle, and Austin; several great grandchildren including a great granddaughter expected in November; and his furry friend, Ringo the cat.

Friends may call on Thursday, October 1st, from 4:00 -6:00 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale, with a Funeral Service following at 6:00 pm.
