Jason “Jay” Dishaw, Sr., 49, of Brewerton passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, surrounded by his family after a short but aggressive battle with lung cancer.
Jason was born on August 31, 1976, in Pensacola, Florida where his father was stationed in the US Air Force. He grew up in Cicero and attended CNS High School with the Class of 1994. He attended OCC where he pursued a degree in Business. He was an avid Giants, Yankees & S.U. fan. In younger days, Jay played in local flag football leagues with his brother-in-law "Chipper" as well as his cousins and bowled every Friday night at Strike N Spare with his Father, Uncles, and Cousins. One of the highlights of his life was watching his son, JJ, play indoor track, lacrosse and football. He loved camping and boating, especially on Otisco Lake and Henderson Harbor. Fishing was another thing that he enjoyed until the grandkids and their friends made him their honorary worm hooker and fish unhooker. He could never say no to them because it became more fun watching them scream with excitement even when they caught the tiniest fish.
Jason was predeceased by his son, Mason in 2021, whom he had donated stem cells and a portion of his liver to in a valiant life-saving effort; his father, Bob; and his maternal and paternal grandparents, Walter and Jane Boruszewski and Robert and Nora Dishaw; and his brother from another mother, Thomas “TJ” Dishaw.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jamie (Collette) of Brewerton; daughters, Leanna (Joe) Davila and Delainey Dishaw, both of Syracuse; a son, Jason Dishaw Jr. of Brewerton; his mother Irene (Boruszewski) Dishaw of Brewerton; his four grandchildren who were his best friends & the light of his life: Mikenna, Millianna, Scarlett and Joseph; in law's, Kathy and Jim Collette of Syracuse; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Angeline (Mike) Brumbach of Norfolk and Adam “Chipper” (Julie) Collette of Syracuse. Jay will also be missed by several aunts, uncles, cousins, a niece and nephew, a great niece and his cousins who were like brothers to him including Anthony White, Greg Cheek, and Jeff Cheek
Calling hours will be Saturday, February 21, from 1:00 - 4:00 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale, with a funeral to follow at 4:00 pm.
Donations can be made in his son Mason's honor to the Ipex Foundation, 6033 Bohleysville Rd., Millstadt, IL 62260 or by Venmo @ipexfoundation.
