Joanne LaCasse

May 4, 1949 — January 21, 2023

Baldwinsville

Joanne “Jake” (Moriarty) LaCasse, 73, of Baldwinsville-incredible mother, sister, wife, grandmother, friend, with the biggest servant heart- joined her sister, parents, and dear friends in heaven on January 21, 2023. Jake was born the eldest of six children to Edward and Anne (Riley) Moriarty in Mattydale. She attended St. Margaret’s School where she met John LaCasse, her beloved husband of 52 years.

At Bishop Ludden she met her cherished companions and supporters, her beloved “Girls” who were and have always been there for her. After high school, she worked at Carrier and built a family with her husband and their three children. Later, Jake served as Director of Human Development at St. Margaret’s Church, where she was an advocate for all.

In 2001, Jake fell seriously ill. Her sister, Patti Sue, selflessly donated 2/3 of her liver so that Jake could survive. Jake understood the magnitude of that gift and worked tirelessly to live every moment of her life to the fullest. Jake always put her family first. She would host family birthdays, St. Patrick’s Day, random Saturday cookouts, and the annual Moriarty Christmas, where the extended family of 30+ people would gather around the piano and sing the “Hallelujah Chorus.” If there was a reason to gather with family, Jake would make it so.

Jake leaves behind her husband, John; children: Mary Erin & Tucker Biddlecombe, John LaCasse III and Heather Marsh, Terry and Annie LaCasse; and grandchildren: Conner, Collin, Piper, Gwen, Lilly, Eian, and Saoirse; her beloved brothers and sisters: Ed and Colleen Moriarty, Mary Claire and Royce Burgess, Sharon and Jim Hurley, and Tim Moriarty. Finally, Jake loved too many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews to count. She is predeceased by her parents, her sister, Patti Sue, and her nephew, Brian.

The family would like to thank Dr. Salil Gupta for his 20+ years of meticulous care and Francis House for the exceptional love she received the final weeks of her life.
