Lori J. Pelkey, 66, of East Syracuse, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026. A woman of enduring warmth and quiet strength, Lori’s journey was marked by a natural gift for caregiving and an unwavering devotion to her family. Born in Syracuse, Lori was raised in Fabius where she attended Fabius Pompey High School. Lori resided in Lakeland, Florida for a number of years before moving back to the East Syracuse area in 2001.
Lori spent many years performing cleaning and housekeeping. Not only did she own and operate her own cleaning service with pride, but she also dedicated a significant portion of her life to cleaning at Cazenovia College. Beyond her professional endeavors, Lori was a devoted eldercare provider, extending her nurturing hand to those in need before becoming disabled herself. Among her favorite pastimes were puzzles, dominoes, and playing cards. Cooking was, arguably, her truest love language; the aromas and flavors she crafted in her kitchen were more than sustenance—they were expressions of care, connection, and creativity that brought her family and friends together. Her ability to nurture did not stop at the dinner table but rippled throughout the lives of her loved ones who called her Mom, Sister, Grandma, and beloved friend.
Lori was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Betty Slater, and a brother, Carl “CJ” Slater.
Lori leaves behind her two children, David (Alecia Hamilton) Pelkey and Sarah (Casey McGlynn) Rubenstein, all of East Syracuse; her sister, Joyce Morse of Fabius; and her three grandchildren, Sophia, Nina, and Myla. Her extended family—several nieces, nephews, and cousins—also mourn the loss of a woman whose life was a testament to strength, kindness, and generosity.
Friends and family may call on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale, with a Celebration of Life following at 6:00 pm.
