John P. “Jay” McGillicuddy Jr., 47, of Central Square, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 10th while in Daytona, Florida for Bike Week. Jay was a native of Mattydale born to the late Sandy and Crash McGillicuddy, Sr and resided in Liverpool and Central Square for most of his life. He was a 1990 graduate of Mexico High School.

Jay owned and operated several towing and recovery businesses over the past 20 years including his most recent venture, The Tow Company in Central Square. He was a physical fitness enthusiast and well known at World’s Gym in Brewerton. Jay made a name for himself following in his father Crash’s footsteps racing at Brewerton and Fulton Speedways for several years. He loved riding his motorcycle and was a member of the Impalers Motorcycle Club in Oswego County. Jay was a former firefighter with the West Monroe Volunteer Fire Department. He attended Northside Baptist Church in Liverpool where he served with SCORE International in the Dominican Republic and was also known as the coffee barista for their Sunday Services.

He leaves behind his three children: Anthony, Ryan and Cassie; his siblings: Barb (Mitch) Motyka of Fulton, Sean (Jenn) McGillicuddy of Mexico and Darlene (Rob) Whitehead of Camillus; his beloved aunt, Donna Verdoliva of Oswego; and a special nephew, Patrick.

Everyone that knew Jay, knew him well and all that considered him a friend felt like they were his best friend. Between his infectious belly laughs and his larger than life personality, Jay was known and loved by many.

Contributions in his memory may be made to SCORE International, c/o Northside Baptist Church, 7965 Oswego Road, Liverpool, NY 13090.

Friends may call on Monday from 3:00 - 7:00 PM at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale. Funeral Services will be held privately due to the Executive Order regarding large gatherings being held.
