Bernard F. "Bernie" Moran

July 27, 1935 — December 29, 2015

Bernard "Bernie" F. Moran, 80, of North Syracuse, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at the VA Medical Center. Born in Syracuse, Bernie grew up in the Valley area. He settled in North Syracuse for the past 50+ years with his wife, Joyce, and together, they maintained a winter residence in Jensen Beach, Florida since 1990. He was the son of the late John and Catherine (Smyth) Moran.

Bernie served in the U.S. Marine Corps stationed in Korea during the Korean War. He retired in 1987 from the Sheet Metal Workers Local #58 in Syracuse. Bernie was a life member of the VFW Post #7290 in North Syracuse, a member of the Korean War Veterans Association in Syracuse and of the American Legion Post #787 in Cicero. He was a longtime communicant of St. Margaret's Church in Mattydale.

Bernie is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former E. Joyce (Gulliford); their three children: Susan (Tim) Dixon of North Syracuse, Kristine Moran-Smith and Scott Moran, both of Syracuse; his two siblings: James Moran of Harrisburg, PA and Margaret Rosinski of Toledo, OH;
and two grandchildren: David J. Brown and Olivia Smith.

The family would like to thank the staff on 7B at the VA Medical Center for their compassionate care while he was a patient there.

Contributions in Bernard's memory may be made to the VFW Post #7290, 105 Maxwell Ave., North Syracuse, NY 13212.

Friends may call on Monday from 3 - 7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. A Prayer Service will being at 9:30 am, Tuesday at the funeral home with a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial following at St. Margaret's Church. Burial will be in Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.
