Leroy "Roy" Natanson

May 30, 1929 — August 21, 2016

Leroy "Roy" Natanson, 87 of North Syracuse, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday with his family at his side. Leroy was born in NYC and was raised in Boston to the late Louis and Estelle (Brostek) Natanson. He served his country in the Korean War as an Army photographer. After the war he attended Syracuse University college in Utica where he met his bride to be at her family's restaurant in Oneida. He then completed his studies at the Syracuse University of Law where he received his Doctorate in 1957. With his education behind him, he married his love, the former Phyllis Shetler. They moved to North Syracuse where they raised their family and resided together for 59 years until her death in 2012.

Roy continued a private law practice in Syracuse for over 50 years. He was also employed
at the Post Standard as a reporter and later as an editor from 1953 to 1980 and was an adjunct professor with the Newhouse School of Communication at SU for many years.

He was a member of the Onondaga County and N.Y.S. Bar Associations and a member of the Syracuse Press club. Roy was an avid bowler for most of his life beginning in Boston where worked as a duckpin bowling Pinsetter.

In addition to his wife, Roy was predeceased by his son Ray Natanson in 2000.

He is survived by a Daughter and Son-in-law Gail and Joe Mauro of Clay; his daughter-in-law Sheila Natanson of Liverpool; six grandchildren, Keri (Bryan) Cunningham, Christina (Nick) Piacquadio, Andrew Gordon, Meghan (Brad) Beagle, Sarah (Joe DiPietro) Natanson, Louis "Uncle Lou" (Amanda Whitman) Natanson; three step grandchildren Pam (Josh) Gillespy, Joseph (Sara) Mauro, Crystal Mauro; 12 great grand children and step great grandchildren; Jakob, Jordan, Hallie, Sophie, Dominick, Malorie, Viara, Josh, Sam, Braylon, Delilah and Riley.

The family wishes to express a special thanks to the wonderful nurses who cared for Roy, especially Heather Lewis and Shyi Mulholland.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Funeral Services are 11 am Thursday at Krueger Funeral Home. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Roy's name to the Legal Services of CNY, 221 S. Warren St., Suite 300 Syracuse, NY 13202.
