Janet Lee Gillen, 76, of James St. in Syracuse, died Friday, July 1, 2016 while visiting her sons in Washington State. Janet was born and raised in Syracuse and was a 1958 graduate of North Syracuse High. She was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Muriel (Stevenson) Nichols.
Janet worked in numerous roles in the Diplomatic Corps, traveling all over the world for over 25 years. She also enjoyed traveling with her sister Cynthia and other family members. Janet was an avid Bridge player and a member of the Daughters of Columbus in Syracuse. She was up for anything to stay active as a senior. Janet was a member of the former Calvary United Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her brother, Richard Nichols, in 1978.
Janet is survived by her two sons: Mark (Karen) Gillen of Battle Ground, WA and Michael (Kaoru) Gillen of Vladivostok, Russia, on assignment; three siblings: Jack (Connie) Nichols of FL, Cynthia Nichols Nies of Liverpool, and Bruce Nichols of Liverpool; six grandchildren: Tabitha, Nicholas, Tara, Michael, Addison, and Alexandra; her eight great grandchildren; and by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews including Brian, Greg and Shayla.
