Karen Perkis

Karen A. (Brooks) Perkis, 70, of Vernon Rd. in Cicero, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at home. A native of Syracuse, Mrs. Perkis resided in Mattydale most of her life before moving to Cicero in 1993. She was the daughter of the late Howard and Kay Brooks.

Karen attended Central City Business Institute, Onondaga Community College and Columbia College. She retired in 1996 after 19 years as a Support Assistant for the Carrier Corp. in Syracuse. For over 40 years, Karen was an active member and past President of the Hinsdale Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, the Onondaga County Volunteer Firemen's Ladies Auxiliary "OCVFLA" and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Firemen's Assn. of the State of NY "LAFASNY". Karen was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliaries of the Northern Section Volunteer Firemen's Assn. and the CNY Volunteer Firemen's Assn.

Upon her marriage to her late husband, she became involved in the antique car hobby and was an active member of the Oneida Lake Region Antique Auto Club of America and the REO Club of America. Karen also volunteered at Elderwood Health Care at Birchwood for many years. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Cicero where she was a member of their Parish Council and Altar Rosary Society and served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister.

She was predeceased by her husband of 13 years, John “Jack” Perkis in 2007, her step-grandson, Ryan, in 2008 and by her step-daughter, Kathy Perkis, in 2010.

Karen is survived two step-daughters: Sharon Frazzini and Victoria Perkis both of Ellensburg, WA.; a step-son, Michael (Charlotte) Perkis of Rochester; six step-grandchildren: Michael, Charlotte, Mindy, Gina, David and Carolyn: step-great grandchildren: Anthony, Taylor, Jonathan, Kristine, Bryon, Emmett, Griffin, Noah, Natalie and Marie; her five siblings: Margaret (Bob) Bryerton, of Fayetteville, Katherine Garlock of Syracuse, Rhoda (Antonio) Lambiase of Taberg, NY, Julie (Paul) Corbett of Marietta, and Donald (Patricia) Brooks of Cortland; many nieces and nephews; her best friend, Cheryl Jones and many treasured friends.

Contributions in Karen's memory may be made to the Hinsdale Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, 113 Malden Rod., Mattydale, NY 13211.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 - 8 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. A Prayer service will begin on Thursday, 9:45 am at the funeral home followed by a 10:30 am mass at Sacred Heart Church, Cicero. Burial will be North Syracuse Cemetery.
