Richard E. Hummel Sr.

Richard E. Hummel, Sr., 79, of Clay, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, August 17, 2025. Born in Hudson, NY, he was the son of the late Raymond and Evelyn Hummel. He was raised in Stuyvesant, NY, on the family dairy farm. Richard attended Hartwick College and SUNY Oneonta where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in history.

Richard worked as a financial advisor for Thrivent Financial in Liverpool. He was a US Navy veteran, Eagle Scout, and a member of the Cicero American Legion Post #787. Richard was also a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in North Syracuse for over 40 years, serving in various roles from church counsel to usher and committee chairs.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Hummel.

Richard is survived by his wife of 14 years and companion for the past 30 years, Kathleen “Kathy” Guerin; two sons, Richard E. (Kristin) Hummel, Jr. of Rochester and Matthew (Sharon) Hummel of Williamsburg, VA; a daughter, Courtney Hummel of Clinton, MA; his six grandchildren: Rhia, Casey, Caleb, Emmalyn, Liam, and Noah; and his nieces and nephews

Friends may call on Saturday, August 23, from 9:00 - 11:00 AM at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church with a Funeral Service following at 11:00 AM. Entombment will be in the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church Columbarium.
