Robert H. Demmerle Sr., 88, of Mattydale, passed away leaving a legacy defined by his dedication to both his country and his career. Robert grew up in Caughdenoy where he graduated from Paul V. Moore High School in the Class of 1955. Robert served proudly in the United States Marine Corps, exemplifying his commitment and service to his nation. Upon returning, he moved to the Mattydale area where he resided for more than 50 years.
Robert began his professional journey at Carrier Corporation in 1959 as a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 527. Over the years, he held various steward positions within the union during the 1960s and 1970s. His leadership skills and dedication to his field led him to serve as President of the Local 527 from 1977-1979. He further demonstrated his commitment to his peers by being elected Business Manager from 1980-1983 and again from 1986-1994. After a distinguished career, Robert retired in 1999 as an International Representative for the Sheet Metal Workers Local 527. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Robert was an avid sportsman who cherished the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating, particularly on Lake Ontario and Oneida Lake. His adventurous spirit was also evident in his love for motorcycling and camping, often traveling with his motor home. Robert's involvement extended beyond his career and into his community, serving on the Advisory Committee for the Board of Directors at Onondaga Community College. His contributions to both his community and his industry have left a lasting impact.
He was predeceased by his parents, William and Dorothy Demmerle, his son, Ronald Demmerle, and two brothers, William and Larry Demmerle.
Robert is survived by his beloved spouse of 52 years, Karen Demmerle; his children: Robert (Joanne "Debbie") Demmerle Jr. of Oswego, Rhonda (Greg) Mott of Baldwinsville, and Randy (Jaime) Demmerle of Camillus; his two sisters, Doreen Post and Bonnie Haberer; two sisters-in-law, Kathy (Brett) Bolton and Janice Demmerle; a brother-in-law, William Carl; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren..
He will be fondly remembered for his service, dedication, and the many adventures he shared with those he held dear.

Friends may call on Saturday, 2/28, from 11 am -12 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale, with Military Honors to follow at 12 pm. The family will host a Celebration of Life at the Mattydale American Legion Post #1832 after the Military Honors.
