Ruth F. Roeckelein, 101, formerly of 330 Kirsch Drive, Mattydale, passed away Saturday at Park Rose Senior Center in Liverpool. She was the daughter of the late John Roeckelein and Anna Maser and was a native of the North side of Syracuse and resided in Mattydale most of her life.
Ruth graduated from North High, Syracuse Normal School and received her Masters in education from Syracuse University in 1953. She worked at Shakesboro School, Mattydale School and finally, Salina School until she retired in 1974 after 38 years educating the youth of Syracuse. Ruth was a member of Mattydale-Hinsdale Seniors. For several years, she was the treasurer of the Mattydale Travel Club and escorted many of the Seniors’ Trips. She was a volunteer of the Catholic Charities lunch program since it began in 1980. Ruth enjoyed gardening, bowling, reading and playing cards with her friends. She looked forward to the visits and activities of her many nieces & nephews especially Joan Tourot and Cindy Seeley. She was a longtime member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church.
Ruth was predeceased by six brothers: Bill, Fred, Ed, Bob, John, and Charles Roeckelein; and by her 3 sisters: Anna Bauer, Clara Dippold, Pearl King and Bertha Garafalo
She is survived by her many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4-7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale. Services will be held at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church at 10 am Thursday. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
