Michael G. "Mike" Rookey

June 19, 1947 — March 23, 2014

Michael "Mike" G. Rookey, 66, resident of Liverpool since 1972, passed away unexpectedly Sunday at St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by his family. Born and raised in Fulton, Mike was a graduate of Fulton High School and was the son of the late George and Phyllis (Waldron) Rookey.

Mike retired in 2012 after 39 years as an assembler at Crouse Hinds Corporation in Syracuse. He was an Assistant Scout Master with the Boys Scout Troop #157 in North Syracuse and the former Assistant Scout Master of Troop #203 in Liverpool. Mike enjoyed camping, fishing, metal detecting, making his own wine and time spent with his children and grandchildren. There wasn't a candy he didn't like, a story he couldn't tell, or a friend he couldn't make.

He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara VanDeusen.

Mike is survived by his wife of 42 years, the former Diane (Waleski); two children: Jason (Amy) Rookey of North Syracuse, and Nicole (John) Dzuba of Baldwinsville; and was Grampy to Brandon, Dana, Brianne, and Jake.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mike's memory may be made to B.S.A. Troop #157, 7929 John Huss Ave., Bridgeport, NY 13030 or to the American Heart Association, 17 Technology Place, East Syracuse, NY 13057.
