Ryan “Y Cornelius/Opie” Voorhies, 42, of Sylvan Beach, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 29, 2026. Ryan grew up in Camden, graduating from Camden Senior High School in 2002. He pursued Criminal Justice at Herkimer County Community College. Throughout his career, Ryan embodied commitment and bravery, serving as an EMS provider for Vineall, North Shore, and Rural Metro Ambulance Companies. His dedication was further exemplified by his previous roles as a Corrections Officer with Madison County and his eight-year tenure at the Department of Public Works in Sylvan Beach. Ryan was currently employed by Riccelli Trucking.
For over 20 years, Ryan's commitment to public service was unmatched, serving as the 3rd Assistant Chief for the Sylvan Beach Fire Department. He was also a valued member of several other fire departments, including Vernon, McConnellsville, West Amboy, and Floyd. His contributions were recognized through numerous awards, including Firefighter of the Year, Top Responder, and multiple life-saving accolades.
In 2019, Ryan began his journey with the Fire & Iron Motorcycle Club, serving as Sergeant at Arms for Station 99 in Syracuse. His passion and leadership led him to expand the Fire & Iron family by starting a probate station as President in Sylvan Beach, soon to be chartered as NY Station 187, the East Shore Crew. Ryan's adventurous spirit and dedication were shared with his wife, Katie. They were known affectionately as "Y Cornelius" and "Triple T" within their motorcycle community and were a dynamic duo. His enthusiasm for motorcycling extended to the Legion Riders, where he formerly served as Assistant Director.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Tom and Ethele Voorhies and an uncle, Shawn Voorhies.
Ryan is survived by his wife and best friend, the former Katie (Crossway); his two sons, Gabriel and Logan; his parents, Leanna and Ken Reed of Camden; brother, Cameron (Haligh) Reed of Camden; two aunts, Valerie (Paula) and Victoria; two cousins, Lauren and Taylor; along with several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ryan's memory may be made to Fire & Iron Station 99 MC, P.O. Box 201, Syracuse, NY 13209 to establish the Y Cornelius Memorial Fund.
