Mattydale

Sharon A. May, 83, longtime resident of Mattydale, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026, with her family by her side. Born in Syracuse, Sharon was the beloved daughter of the late James and Helen Jacobs. A 1959 graduate of North Syracuse High School, Sharon worked for NY Telephone Co. during the 1960s before devoting herself to raising her family, a calling she held dear throughout her life.

Sharon's life was filled with love for the outdoors, especially camping with her family on Wellesley Island. For over 20 years, she cherished the summers spent at her camp near Ontario Shores, creating memories with her loved ones. Her commitment to her family and community was evident in her leadership roles as the past President of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and President of the Roxboro Road PTO for several years. Sharon's home was a welcoming haven for many, earning her the affectionate title of "mom" from those around her. She was an avid reader and a communicant of St. Margaret's Church in Mattydale.

In addition to her parents, Sharon was predeceased by her brothers, James, Frank and Rocco.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Earl J. May Jr; her children: Scott May of Liverpool, Michelle (Roger) White of Central Square, Kelly (Chris) Benz of Mattydale, Lynn (Chip) Hanlon of Pulaski, and Jennifer (Tim Pauley) May of Camillus; a sister, Sandy (Mike) Valerio of Memphis; two brothers, Walter John of Syracuse, and Michael (Loren) John of East Syracuse; six grandchildren: Kayla, Myranda, Zachary, Ashley, Ashton, and Nicholas; and her three great grandchildren: Chloe, Carter, and Hunter.

Friends may call on Thursday, August 27, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Road, Mattydale, with a Service of Remembrance following at 7:00 pm. Burial will be Friday, 10:00 am, in Oakwood Cemetery, Syracuse.
