Leona Straub

September 18, 1919 — October 20, 2010

Leona K. Straub, 91, of Mattydale, died Wednesday at St. Joseph's Hospital. Leona was a native of Syracuse and had resided on Kirsch Drive in Mattydale since 1948. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Goldie Smith Bernet.
Leona was a 1931 graduate of Cathedral Catholic School. She worked in the clerical field for more than 40 years for various companies in the Syracuse area, including: DeSantis Appliance and J&J Hardware, both in Mattydale. Leona was a past president and treasurer of the Salina Civic Center Seniors, a member of the Wagon Wheel and Home Bureau, and served as the committee woman of the 3rd Ward as well as a poll inspector for the Democratic Party. She was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church, a member of their Altar Rosary and Mothers Club, and a member of the Socialites.
Leona was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Edward H. Straub, in 2007.
She is survived by her three daughters: Theresa Darrell Hylton of Beaufort, SC, Deborah Ronald Carroll of Springtown, TX, and Linda James Buddie of Cato; two sons: Edward of Minoa, and Richard of Cicero; her two sisters: Lois Martin of FL, and Mary Lou Neville of TX; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Leona would have been a great great grandmother in the Spring of 2011.
Friends may call Sunday from 12-3pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Prayers will begin on Monday, 9:15 am at the funeral home followed by a 10 am Mass of Christian burial at St. Margaret's Church. Burial will be in Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse. Contributions in Leona's memory may be made to St. Margaret's Church, 203 Roxboro Rd., Mattydale, NY 13211.
