Helen Thompson

Helen M. Thompson, 95, of Liverpool, died January 24, 2017. Helen was a native of Utica who resided in Liverpool since 1959 and was the daughter of the late Peter and Catherine (Cichorz) Gruszka.

She graduated from Utica Free Academy, Class of 1938 and Excelsior Business School. She retired in 1974 after 10 years as a bookkeeper and cashier at F.W. Woolworth's in Northern Lights. Helen was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church and a member of its Altar Rosary Society.

She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Robert B. Thompson, in 2007 and her son Robert C. Thompson of Syracuse in 2009.

Helen is survived by her three sons: Peter J. (Martha) Thompson of Syracuse, Paul R. Thompson of Fayetteville, and Theodore M. (Aiko)Thompson of North Chatham, MA, Grandchildren: Lorrie L. (Thompson) Gibbons of Rochester, Paul V. Thompson of Webster, Brian R. Thompson of Syracuse, Kelly P. (Thompson) Kell of Coon Rapids, MN, and Scott W. Thompson of Syracuse; and five great grandchildren.

Friends may call on Friday from 5 - 7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. A Prayer Service will begin at the funeral home on Saturday, 9:15 am followed by a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret's Church. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Utica.
