Sharon M. Young

May 18, 1938 — April 2, 2017

Sharon M. Young, 78, of Mattydale, passed away peacefully at home, on Sunday April 2nd, surrounded by her family. Sharon grew up in Warners and resided in Tully for many years before moving to Mattydale. She was a 1956 graduate of West Genesee High School and the daughter of the late Charles and Ella (House) Olmstead.

Sharon worked as an administrative assistant in the Tully and Syracuse areas for various offices including the Tully Family Practice as well as the Syracuse Personnel Center earlier in her career. Sharon was proudest of the work she did as an assistant to Dr. Murray Miron at the Syracuse Research Center and was thrilled to be made an Honorary member of the US Marshalls Office and the F.B.I because of her work with him. Sharon was a member of a Snowmobile Club, The Friends of Rosamond Gifford Zoo, the Warners Methodist Church and a supporter of the local S.P.C.A. Sharon happily taught Sunday School and was in the choir at Warners Methodist Church and she later attended Liverpool First United Methodist Church after her move to Mattydale. Sharon loved to travel and would happily go anywhere on an adventure. She loved to garden and would spend hours in her yard, tending to her flowers. Sharon had a great love for animals and would bring in any stray that needed love and attention. Although she had many joys – none overshadowed the joy and immense love Sharon had for her children – what she considered her greatest accomplishment.

She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Edward R. Young, in 2013 and by their daughter, Christine Lynn Young.

Sharon is survived by her children: James (Dawn Olmstead) Young of Mattydale, Sheila Ann Bowes of RI and Rebekah (Karen Kellogg) Young of Liverpool; two siblings: Alice Sheila Crandon of Lyons and Edward Charles Olmstead of VA; seven grandchildren: Nicole, Desireé, Bryan, Jessica, Jamie, Josh, and Jennifer; and by her four great grandchildren: Christina, Nathan, Kaylie, and Hannah, as well as several beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Donations may be made to the CNY S. P. C. A., 5878 E. Molloy Rd., Mattydale, NY 13211, The Humane Assn., 4915-1/2 W. Taft Rd., Liverpool, NY 13088, or The Parkinson’s Foundation in lieu of flowers.

Friends may call on Thursday from 4-7 pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale, with a Funeral Service following at 7 pm. Burial will be Greenlawn Memorial Park, Warners Friday at 11:00 am.
